Introduction 

Aga Khan University Hospital, Nairobi is a private not-for-profit teaching hospital that provides tertiary and secondary level healthcare services. Under The Aga Khan University Hospital is an Outreach Division, which is a rapidly growing network of about 50 medical centers spread over East Africa. Job Description 
 
Position: Medical Physicist, Radiation Therapy - (2400009S)
Entity: Aga Khan University Hospital, Nairobi
Location: Nairobi, Kenya 

Job Purpose 

The incumbent will assist in selection, smooth operation and maintenance of all radiation equipment. He/she will be responsible for treatment planning, CT simulation, dose distributions and monitor unit calculations, beam data management and consultation with Oncologists. He/she will also participate in all Quality Assurance tests of equipment to ensure conformance to quality standards, radiation safety and security policies. 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Assist in selection of equipment as per the requirements; prepare specification of the required equipment. 
  • Perform acceptance testing and commissioning along with beam data measurements, and validation before clinical use of the machine.
  • Responsible for calibration of all the equipment in Radiation Therapy and overseeing quality assurance in the procedures performed and treatment provided.
  • Periodically perform QA tests of LINAC’s and CT simulator.
  • Special treatment procedures:  Assist in dose calculation formalism and performing special treatment techniques including special Dosimetry and In vivo Dosimetry.
  • Implement and perform TBI and TSET techniques for EBRT patients.
  • Carry out radiation surveys, oversee facility designs and personnel monitoring to ensure conformance to the standards and meeting the regulatory requirement.
  • Participate in research, development and teaching along with other administrative activities. 

Qualifications, Experience and Skills Required:

  • M.Sc. in Physics/ Medical Physics 
  • Appropriate credentials as a Medical Physicist acceptable to the department
  • A minimum of 3-5 years’ experience as a Medical Physicist, preferably in a teaching hospital fully equipped with relevant imaging and radiation therapy modalities, is desirable.
  • Certification with relevant board will be preferable.
  • Strong clinical experience of 3DCRT, IMRT and VMAT treatment planning and delivery.
  • Experience with Modern radiation techniques like SRS/SBRT with appropriate QA will be preferable.
  • Having good understanding and clinical experience of gynecological and interstitial HDR brachytherapy of prostate.
  • Experience of working with Multivendor machines will be additional advantage.
  • Having experience of acceptance and commissioning of a Linear accelerator and CT simulator.
  • Experience in Special treatment procedures like, TBI and TSET.

Responsibilities: 

  • Receive, verify prescriptions and dispense drugs in a timely manner within approved standards and procedures.
  • Contact the physician immediately for inaccuracy and illegibility in a prescription order, document errors and communicate them to the nursing and pharmacy staff
  • Verify expiry dates of drugs prior to dispensing medication to patients/customers.
  • Check that every label placed on the medications contains the correct patient name, drug, quantity and directions.
  • Compound extemporaneous preparations and mix certain intravenous medications as per laid down procedures.
  • Counsel patients on drug administration and use of devices for optimum wellness and recovery.
  • Receive, return and update drug credits on the system in a timely manner.
  • Deliver drug discharges to patients in the ward where applicable
  • Communicate out of stock and non-stock effectively and timely to prescriber and nurse and provide alternative choice or make arrangements to order promptly.
  • Comply and observe the environmental health and safety measures and regulations by proper handling, storage and dispensation of medications
  • Record, monitor and update the expiry list of medications in timely manner.
  • Complete documentation of Interventions, Medication errors and Near Miss, Adverse events, Medication queries, Patient complaints or any other incidents and forward to relevant office
  • Perform random medication checks daily and Monitor variance levels in your respective satellites.
  • Compile daily satellite reports.
  • Carry out regular satellite stock-take exercise.
  • Report any special indicators allocated.
 
 Requirements:

  • Diploma in Pharmaceutical Technology from a recognized institution
  • Registered with The Kenya Pharmaceutical Association
  • Practicing License from the Pharmacy and Poisons Board.
  • 2 year working experience in a busy facility, preferably a hospital
  • Valid Basic Life Support Certificate (BLS)

The Role 

As a Pharmaceutical Technologist in our Mombasa Warehouse, you will be responsible for maintaining operational procedures required to run the day-to-day activities of the Medicines business channel, specifically working in warehouse Management. You will liaise with the Ops and sales teams to ensure that orders placed are Picked, packed, and delivered.  

Responsibilities 

  • Work on picking, packing, and delivery process and Fulfillment of orders according to the timelines to ensure Ilara customers obtain the desired products.
  • To inspect and receive incoming orders delivered to our warehouse and for dispatch to clients on a rolling basis..
  • Work closely with the logistics providers to ensure timely collection for delivery while confirming the arrival of deliveries to the customers and following up on issues arising from logistics.
  • Manage the inventory levels of the product in stock and raise requests for reorder quantities.
  • Facilitate the reconciliation of accounts.
  • Maintain inventory records as appropriate and record them in the inventory management system.
  • Use data to build a robust understanding of customer preferences, most-desired brands, and fastest-moving SKUs.

Job Purpose 

Planning, organizing, and coordinating all activities and services in theatre to ensure standard of nursing care in line with the hospital’s policies and procedures.

  • You are registered with a  counselor's professional body in Kenya
  • You have between 3-5 years of experience in institutional counselling
